CALOBA Statement on Texas SB 147, SB552, SB711, and HB2788 (March 28, 2023)

The Chinese American Lawyers of the Bay Area (CALOBA) strongly oppose the provisions of Texas Senate Bills 147, 552, and 711, and Texas House Bill 2788. These bills, as currently written, are discriminatory and target immigrants, refugees, and citizens from certain countries, including China, by prohibiting them from owning land, buying homes, or establishing businesses in Texas based on their family’s country of migration. CALOBA Stands Against Racism And Violence (March 25, 2021)

Chinese American Lawyers of the Bay Area (CALOBA) is deeply saddened and concerned by the continued rise of hate crimes and violence toward the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.  Anti-Asian xenophobic rhetoric surrounding the pandemic that falsely blames the AAPI community for the COVID-19 crisis has contributed to the spike in violence and crimes.  From Oakland, California to Brooklyn, New York, innocent Asian Americans have been targeted and severely injured or killed in senseless acts of violence.  On March 16, 2021, the murders in Atlanta took Read more…

Announcement: Membership Fees Increase Starting July 1st, 2017

After obtaining approval from the Board, the Executive Team has decided to increase CALOBA membership fees on July 1st, 2017. The new membership fees are $300, $60, and $30 for lifetime membership, annual professional membership, and annual student membership, respectively. CALOBA is a volunteer-based organization, and members of the Executive Team and the Board take no compensation. All membership dues are dedicated to members’ networking opportunities and professional development.
