Panel discussion on career change during the pandemic.

Has the Covid-19 pandemic altered your career aspirations? When is a good time to take a different path? How to survive and thrive in the changing landscape as a legal practitioner? The Chinese American Lawyers of the Bay Area (CALOBA) proudly hosts a Zoom panel discussion to address these questions and beyond. We have invited a group of seasoned lawyers in the Bay Area to offer their insight. A Q & A session will follow the panel discussion. Please come and join us online!

Panelist Profiles

Lenny Huang is General Counsel at Scalable Inc., a technology company that builds physical and software infrastructure to power e-commerce entrepreneurship in emerging markets. Prior to going in house last year, Lenny spent over 15 years at various law firms including WSGR and Alston & Bird where he was part of the Asia practice and litigated patent and trade secret cases.

John W. Kuo is Chief Legal Officer of Visby Medical, a late-stage start-up that is pioneering rapid, point-of-care and portable PCR testing technology where he leads the Legal and Compliance functions. Prior to Visby John has been in life sciences for almost 20 years, most notably 15 years as SVP, General Counsel of Varian Medical Systems, a S&P500/Fortune1000 company devoted to treating cancer. He has worked across three industries – energy, high tech and life sciences – and advocates for cross-pollination of ideas across industries. He credits his two expat assignments, first to Scotland in a Europe/Middle East role and later to Singapore in an Asia/Pacific Rim role, as seminal to his professional development and his views on the role of the legal department in helping to grow a global business. He also serves on the board of Mirion Technologies (NYSE:MIR) and is the Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee Chair.

Sandy Yao is currently a Director of Legal at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and heads their legal team that oversees product, privacy and intellectual property issues across CZI. Prior to this, she spent six years at LinkedIn, providing product and privacy counseling to various product and business lines (including LinkedIn China). She also worked as an associate at WSGR focusing on technology transactions. Sandy came from an engineering background and received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at MIT and later her JD from Stanford Law School.

Christine Liu is VP and Associate General Counsel at Myovant Sciences. Christine has 18+ years of experience in SEC filings, public company corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, compensation and benefits, commercial contracts, corporate finance, legal operations and subsidiary management. Christine received LL.B. (in law) and B.A. in Economics from Peking University and later JD cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
