CALOBA Panel Discussion: Legal Job Search in a Pandemic

How has the legal industry changed in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic? How to stand out as a newly minted lawyer? What does it take to survive and thrive in the changing landscape as a legal practitioner? Chinese American Lawyers of the Bay Area (CALOBA) proudly hosts a Zoom panel discussion to address these questions and beyond. We have invited a group of seasoned lawyers and recruiter in the Bay Area to offer their insight. A Q & A session will follow the panel discussion. Come and join us online!

Jennifer Gilbert is a partner at Bunsow De Mory LLP. Her practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and complex commercial disputes. Jennifer has the first-hand experience with the trials and tribulations of searching for a job in an economic downturn when Howrey LLP, her firm at the time, went bankrupt at the end of the Great Recession. Jennifer has a B.A. and a J.D. from Santa Clara University.
Lina Guo is a director in Major Lindsey, & Africa’s San Francisco and Palo Alto offices. She focuses on the placement of in-house counsel at all levels for legal departments ranging from those in Fortune 500 companies to emerging start-ups. Lina works closely with CEOs, CHROs, and GCs across a variety of industries and sectors, including technology and biopharmaceutical. Prior to in-house counsel recruiting, Lina spent several years working with AmLaw 200 and boutique firms on associate recruitment in the Bay Area. Lina has a B.A. degree as well as a J.D.
Alex Nie is a partner at Sheppard Mullin's Palo Alto office. His practice focuses on global intellectual property protection strategy and technology transfer issues. Alex is the co-chair of the office's partner recruitment committee and summer recruitment committee. Alex also mentors young attorneys and frequently provides advice relating to job search and career development. In addition to the JD degree, Alex's background includes a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and a M.S. in computer science.
Lawrence Kong is Senior Patent Counsel at Amgen. His practice focuses on intellectual property law in the field of biotechnology. Prior to joining Amgen, Lawrence was in-house counsel at both small and large biotech companies, as well as practicing at multiple international law firms. Prior to the practice of law, Lawrence earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology. Lawrence is also a past-President of CALOBA.
