Counsel Competently: Calm Your Brain and Body, Regain Your Focus

September 18 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Lawyer wellness isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. Learn science-based strategies to make better decisions, and protect your well-being.

About the Event:

Every day, lawyers make complex decisions, navigate difficult conversations, and strive to practice with civility. But what happens when stress, burnout, or fatigue get in the way? Join us for a powerful and practical CLE (Competence-Wellness) program that explores how lawyer wellness directly impacts your ability to serve clients with competence and integrity. This program focuses on three core skills essential to your legal practice:

• Making effective decisions

• Having challenging conversations

• Maintaining civility under pressure

Our distinguished speaker, Michelle Greer Galloway, has been an associate, partner and is currently Of Counsel to the Cooley Litigation department and its IP group. Her litigation practice focuses on patent litigation and she also works with companies, teams and individuals on leadership and management skills. Michelle is a frequent speaker at conferences and at companies combining current scientific and psychological research with practical advice and humor regarding the practice of law.

In addition to her practice, she is a lecturer teaching courses in patent litigation and professional development and management skills at Stanford Law School and a lecturer at Santa Clara Law School teaching courses in patent litigation, using expert witnesses in complex cases, and law practice management. She served on the California Lawyers Association Litigation Section Executive Committee. She is a past chair of the ABA IP Section Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee and was recognized with the ABA Recognition of Outstanding Leadership Contribution. She has a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell and has taken courses related to neuroscience and leadership. Whether you’re in court, at the negotiating table, or counseling clients, your well-being matters — to your clients, your colleagues, and your career. Don’t miss this opportunity to recharge, reflect, and reframe how wellness supports your professional excellence.

About CALOBA

The Chinese American Lawyers of the Bay Area (CALOBA) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit mutual benefit corporation established in 2003 by a group of U.S.-trained and California-licensed Chinese American attorneys in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its initial aim was to connect fellow attorneys and law students with similar backgrounds and cultural interests to support their legal career development. Since then, CALOBA has grown into one of the nation’s largest organizations devoted to legal professionals of Chinese heritage. Our diverse membership is predominantly bilingual and bicultural, with expertise spanning various practice areas, including corporate transactions, securities, intellectual property, litigation, employment, immigration, and public interest.

CALOBA hosts continuing legal education events, workshops, and networking activities for attorneys and law students. We provide community services, co-host events with other legal and non-legal organizations on current legal, social, and economic issues that concern our members and the broader Asian American community and publicize important societal matters.
