Sophie Chen is a highly accomplished legal professional with a strong background in technology transactions and corporate law. Currently serving as the Head of Legal and Compliance at Overland Pharmaceuticals, Sophie Chen oversees a wide range of legal and compliance matters at the cross-border biopharmaceutical company. Prior to joining Overland Pharmaceuticals, Sophie served as Senior Corporate Counsel at Gilead Sciences where she specialized in strategic transactions such as licensing, collaborations, mergers, and acquisitions. Sophie began her legal career at Foley & Lardner LLP, where she honed her skills in patent prosecution and patent litigation, and technology transactions. Sophie received her JD from Notre Dame Law School and Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Economics from Peking University.
Zhanping Wu is Partner, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Vivo Capital, a global healthcare investment firm. Ms. Wu joined Vivo Capital in April 2015. Before joining Vivo Capital, Ms. Wu was the Director and Corporate Counsel of FibroGen, a biopharmaceutical company that obtained initial public listing on NASDAQ in 2014. Prior to that, she was a senior corporate attorney at Perkins Coie, LLP, focusing on venture capital and emerging companies practice and was named as a “Northern California Rising Star” in Super Lawyers Magazine for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013. Ms. Wu received her bachelor’s degree in philosophy and master’s degree in law from Peking University, China, and a J.D. from the University of California, Davis.
Sandy Yao is currently a Director of Legal at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI). She heads the legal team that oversees product, privacy and intellectual property issues across CZI, supporting various Science, Education and AI initiatives. Prior to this, she spent six years at LinkedIn, providing product and privacy counseling to various product and business lines (including LinkedIn China). She also worked as an associate at WSGR focusing on technology transactions. Sandy came from an engineering background and received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at MIT and her JD from Stanford Law School.
Jerry Zha is an Associate General Counsel at Okcoin. Prior to that, he was a Managing Associate at Sheppard Mullin. Jerry has a JD degree from George Washington University and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. He has great interest in the interface between cutting edge technologies and law.
