    Counsel (0202) – Procurement, Health Law & Medical Center Services (Contract)

    The University of California’s, Office of General Counsel (OGC) seeks an attorney to advise on a broad range of health law matters affecting the University’s academic medical centers, health sciences schools, and other clinical operations.  Must have knowledge and understanding of regulations affecting healthcare organizations and relationships among providers of healthcare services and their vendors, including without limitation: federal and state fraud and abuse laws, federal and state privacy laws, and other applicable regulatory standards. Expertise drafting and reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Experience negotiating and reviewing procurement agreements for healthcare organizations and experience counseling clients on public procurement strategies and processes. 

    The University’s academic medical centers form an $8.6 billion enterprise, operating premier quaternary medical centers throughout the State; its health sciences education system is the country’s largest, with more than 14,000 students enrolled in 17 health professional schools and programs; and it is among the largest recipients of NIH research support in the United States.

    The position is for a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension pending funding, need, and performance.
     
    Qualifications include a JD from an accredited law school and a member, in good standing, of the California State Bar.  Exceptional candidates with less years of experience are encouraged to apply.    Minimum of five years of relevant practice experience in a law firm, or in-house counsel for an academic health center or other healthcare organization.  Preferred qualification include, experience advising health organization leaders on health procurement matters, experience negotiating and reviewing procurement agreements for healthcare organizations, and expertise with California law affecting public entity procurement.

    Salary is commensurate with qualifications and depth/breadth of experience.  
    Salary range:  Counsel, $113,100-$203,700
