Speaker Profile and Event Description:
Alan Seem, Partner, Shearman& Sterling. His primary areas of focus are SEC-registered and Rule 144A/Regulation S securities offerings, M&A, venture capital and private equity investments and going-private transactions. He has a JD from Columbia University School of Law. He speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese fluently and is an active speaker in the Bay Area Chinese professional community. When he was working in China, he regularly worked with Chinese associates to improve their English writing skills.
Zheng (Jen) Liu, Of Counsel, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. She has a background in Physics/Cell Biology from University of Science and Technology of China, MS in Molecular Biology from Ohio State University, and JD from UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). Her practices focuses on complex litigation, particular intellectual property and commercial litigation. She is a frequent speaker in the Bay Area Chinese professional community on career development matters. She will share her own experience improving her writing skills after becoming a lawyer.
This event will focus on improving writing in professional/legal settings. It will address mistakes commonly made by native Chinese-speakers, for example: common grammar mistakes, improper style in professional communications, and mistakes caused by limited vocabulary and lack of cultural understanding.
